For many years, IQ (intelligence quotient) was considered to be the indicator of intelligence. An IQ score is determined through standardized testing, often characterized by measures of a person’s verbal comprehension skills, working memory capacity, perceptual reasoning ability, and processing skills. IQ represents a narrow conceptualization of intelligence and is traditionally focused on skills related to academic success. Intelligence was once thought to be stable throughout one’s lifespan. In other words, no amount of education or studying could change your IQ score or capacity to learn. Fortunately, the research of psychologist Robert Sternberg and others indicated otherwise, confirming that intelligence can vary, can be developed over one’s lifetime, and extends beyond the traditional skills associated with IQ. In this week’s resources, you will consider Sternberg’s theory of successful intelligence and a theory from another well-known giant in the field of intelligence, Howard Gardner. Gardner identified seven distinct intelligences that offer a much broader and more realistic view of the concept, and account for individual differences and cultural context.

In this assignment, you will apply a theory of multiple intelligence to your own life by identifying the intelligences you use throughout the day, as well as which intelligences come easily to you and which could be developed further.

To prepare

• Review this week’s Learning Resources on multiple intelligences.
• Select a theory of multiple intelligences that interests you the most.
• Track a 24-hour day in your life and, based on the theory you selected, identify which intelligences you applied throughout your day.
• Think about the intelligences that come easily to you and those that could be developed further.

By Day 7

Submit a 1-to 2-page paper that addresses the following:

• Briefly describe the theory of multiple intelligence you selected.
• Using the theory you selected, describe the different intelligences you applied throughout your day.
• Explain which areas of intelligence come naturally to you and which areas could be further developed and why. Be specific and support your conclusions with scholarly literature

This week you learned about implementing electronic health records. Imagine that you are the HIT Director for a healthcare facility and you are tasked with leading the facility in converting their office to electronic health records. For this Assignment, you will design and construct a Microsoft PowerPoint® presentation that highlights the planning and implementation process when converting to electronic health records. You will present this PowerPoint to other stakeholders in the HIT Department. Please include the following topics in your presentation:

• Name and describe 2 examples of EHRs used in healthcare facilities and discuss the pros and cons of each.
• What technologies would the facility need to implement electronic health records?
• Describe how the facility should implement EHRs using the phases of the system development life cycle as a guide.

Your presentation must have at least 15–20 slides. Please use the notes section to clarify anything that might be confusing and anything that needs elaboration such as definitions.

To understand the use of an RFI and RFP

Assignment Description

You are the HIM Director for Herzing Hospital and represent the Health Information Management Department on the EDMS (Electronic Document Management System) Steering Committee. The committee has given you the responsibility of developing a questionnaire that will be used to conduct a needs assessment of the healthcare providers at Herzing Hospital. The questionnaire will collect information from end users about the functionality they need in an EDMS. Knowing how important this assessment is to implementation of the EDMS, you are committed to creating a questionnaire that uses good form design principles and comprehensive questions that will collect all of the necessary information to successfully implement an EDMS that meets the needs of its end users.

You need complete the following:

Step One: Create a formal needs assessment questionnaire that contains all of the questions you will solicit to your defined end users.

1. Create a header that contains the title of document, as well as the necessary data collection fields (job title, department, etc).

2. Create the questionnaire in the body of the document with at least 20 questions

3. Use open ended and closed questions.

Step Two: Write a 2-3 page (not counting title and references page) summary paper in APA format with at least 3 references that addresses the following:

1. Discuss who the end users of this system will be.

We know that language influences our thoughts, truths, and realities, but the reverse is also true—our thoughts, truths, and realities influence how our language develops and changes.  Because more women are working outside the home than fifty years ago, children’s books written today inevitably account for this in the stories they tell.  Thus, social and cultural reality (that women work outside the home) affects the language used in children’s books (and possibly the way girls will be encultured in the future). 

Further, existing categories in language affect our thoughts, realities, and truths.  Because the English language contains separate terms for the pronouns ‘he,’ ‘she,’ and ‘it,’ we believe that it’s an important distinction to make in when referring to a person (or inanimate object).  Interestingly, the Lakota only designate one term for all three of these pronouns: hé.  Lakota speakers must rely on the context of the sentence to know whether the speaker is referring to a woman, man, animal, or inanimate object.

This assignment involves several parts:

1)    Perform your own fieldwork in at two public locations (or on two different occasions in the same public place), assessing gender specific behavior, language, and nonverbal communication. 

2)    Your group will then give a fifteen minuteclass presentation over these observational findings as they relate to the course reading and film materials.  A detailed grading rubric for this presentation is provided at the end of this document.

3)    After your presentation, your group must hand in an accompanying essay (7-10 pages, double-spaced, Times New Roman font, 1” margins), with copies of your field notes. A detailed grading rubric for this presentation is provided at the end of this document.

4)    Finally, your group members will also assess the value of your contributions to the group’s preparation, collaboration, presentation, and finishing (please see the attached peer review evaluation form at the top of this page).

For this assignment, imagine that you have been tasked with preparing a cultural brief for an upcoming trip that will put you and your travel companions in touch with a different societal cluster. Choose one cluster other than the one in which you currently operate, and create a PowerPoint presentation that addresses the following items:

• List and describe the cultural cluster that will be visited.
• Provide information on cultural norms from the cluster to be visited, including specific information from the GLOBE study (see article by Javidan, Dorfman, De Luque, and House in the unit's required readings).
• Describe the leadership approaches preferred in the cluster that will be visited.
• Describe considerations for leading multicultural teams.

Utilize the in-class materials to support the content of this presentation and include at least one image in your presentation. Your PowerPoint presentation should be 7 to 10 slides in length. The title and reference slides do not count toward the total slide count.
