Because of concerns about the nursing workforce shortage and the continued cost escalation within the health care industry, it is imperative that we understand how to manage the “delegation” aspect of the role of nursing to fulfill accountability outlined in the RN Scope of Practice. The RN′s work environment changes throughout a busy shift, and each situation needs to be evaluated differently. With this in mind, delegation is challenging and often misunderstood and not used as effectively as it could be. What key factors should be considered when delegating? Provide an example of a time when you delegated a task and it went as planned or it did not go as planned. Did you utilize any leadership skills? If your delegation experience went as planned, please describe your experience and explain why it was successful. If your delegation experience did not go as planned, what did you learn from the experience and how can you improve your delegation skills? Provide at least one example from your readings, and validate with at least one nursing research (peer reviewed) article.
