For those interested, you have the opportunity to create and present a short profile of a

professional working in the field of real estate. If they are local, I encourage you to meet up in

person, but this is not a requirement. A short phone call or email conversation will suffice as

well. Your summary should include answers to the following questions:

What was the career path that led them to their current position? Were they always

interested in their field, or did they come to it by accident?

What are the responsibilities of their current position? What does a typical day look

like?

What skills are particularly important for their industry or position? How did they

develop them? How do they suggest that someone interested in the field prepare?

What makes a competitive candidate? Are there skills they

wish

they had or those that

they are looking to develop in the future?

What general advice do they have for a current college student interested in working

in the field?

I leave it to you to define what qualifies as a “real estate professional” and encourage you to

adopt a broad definition. Real Estate Agents, Brokers, Developers, Bankers, and Institutional

Investors working in real estate would all make for good interviewees. If you’re having trouble

locating a profile subject, contact me and I can help you brainstorm.

You should treat this as a networking opportunity. Informational interviews are always good way

to learn about a position and get your name out there, and it’s easier still will you can request

them under the guise of a class project.

For full credit, you must submit a short (1.5 – 2 page) summary of your profile.
